Da Ming Shan, Lin An, Zhejiang (August 12, 2007) Da Ming Shan of Linan in Zhejiang is about four and a half hours drive from Suzhou. Everywhere we went, we did not encounter a single foreigner. That is because the tour attraction and the area nearby do not cater to foreigners. However, don't let this discourage any foreigner who wants to visit Da Ming Shan. Take a Chinese friend with you. Da Ming Shan is a mini-version of Huang Shan. We took the cable car to the top of the mountain and visited the scenic areas via an old abandoned mining tunnel system. No kidding, the temperature inside the tunnel is as cool as air conditioning. On a hot, hot summer day, this was such a welcome treat. We emerged from one tunnel opening to another, taking as many photos as we wanted admiring the beauty of nature. Then we went back to the tunnel and cooled off. I found this more enjoyable than visiting Huang Shan itself. We were totally exhausted at Huang Shan, struggling at times to make it from one scenic spot to another. At Da Ming Shan, it's delightful walking and hiking. Best of all, the area is not crowded like Huang Shan. This is definitely one place we would love to come back year after year. We have only just begun to discover Da Ming Shan. For overnight stay, visit the 3 star Lin'An Hotel for about 300 rmb a night.
