Mudu Watertown October 28 was another beautiful
Autumn day for us to explore the land of China. This
Saturday, we went with 8 friends on a one day tour
to Mudu, which is 10 km west of Suzhou. The adjective,
'ANCIENT' is always attached to the name 'MUDU'. That
is because it's an old town, and still is. We have
a Chinese tour guide who did a marvelous job of pointing
out special highlights everywhere we went. When we
walked into a room of old furniture, old wood beams...
our guide would delightfully point out special architectural
significance, calligraphical designs on walls, names
of types of buildings, terrace, window designs and
so forth... It's so interesting. In addition, she
also told us bits of history of the places we visited.
For example, Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty (1735-1795)
had visited Mudu six times. Hey, we have to visit
Mudu at least once, right? After visiting Mudu, I
think I know why the Emperor Qianlong kept going back.
Find out for yourself. Visit Mudu. (Don't forget to
look for the trees that tie their own knots. See the
first photo. It's so fun!)
